National Museum of Mongolia

Want to learn a little more about the country’s history? Plan a trip to the National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. It contains artifacts dating back to the Bronze Age and older all the way up until today.

Hours: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm: closed Sunday, Monday.

Khongoryn Els

Located in Gurvan Saikhan National Park, Mongolia and nicknamed Duut Mankhan (translates to Singing Dunes), these are some of the largest sand dunes in this region are a prime location to go on a camel ride through the desert. This national park is away from the loud city, nestled in the Gobi Desert in southwestern Mongolia. The sand dunes are almost 1,000 feet high, 8 miles wide, and over 60 feet in length.

National Academic Drama Theatre

Set in the heart of Ulaanbaatar, this live performance theatre attracts many tourists and locals alike all year with about 12 shows a year (all shows are in Khalka Mongol). They perform shows written by Mongolian, Russian, and Chinese playwrights, and includes puppet shows for children.

Experience Nomadic Mongolia (14 day tour)

Khuiten Uul

At the impressive height of 14,350 feet, Khuiten Uul is in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and is the highest peak on the range. Lying on the extreme west of Mongolia close to Kazakhstan and is the tallest mountain in the country. This destination is mostly of interest if you are a professional climber that is equipped with ice picks, harnesses, and ropes. But don’t worry: if you’re not a climber, you can still hike up to the base camp of the mountain and get a spectacular view of the 7 mile glacier running down the side of the mountain.If you are planning on hiking up the mountain, know that the hike is about 8.5 miles just to the base camp: if would be wise to find a guide so that you don’t get lost on the many paths and trails through the mountain.
